Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 - Excellent For PC Games

The name of the Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 says everything you need to know about the product. It's an Alienware Aurora gaming setup, which means you'll receive a unique chassis with plenty of powerful, configurable components. It also says it's based on the slightly older R10 build and uses AMD components rather than Intel/Nvidia hardware.

The Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 is on par with its Intel/Nvidia cousin in terms of performance.

That means you can comfortably play the top PC games at QHD resolutions, and with very minor sacrifices in 4K. Still, there's a general feeling that AMD software is more difficult to use than it should be, which means you'll have to spend a lot of time fine-tuning game settings.

The same issues that plagued the normal R10 and R11 models - loud fans, strange chassis, and needless Dell software - persist here.

1- Specifications:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X.
  • RAM: 128 GB.
  • Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 6800 XT.
  • Storage: 2 TB SSD + 2 TB HDD.
  • Accessories:  Keyboard(Dell Multi-Media) , Mouse(Dell Optical MS116AW).
  • Ports: DisplayPort, HDMI, USB(A-C), (3.5 mm , optical)audio.
  • Size: 18.9 x 17.0 x 8.8 inches.
  • Weight: 39 pounds.

2- Design:

I mentioned in our evaluation of the Alienware Aurora R11 that the Aurora PC line has an unusual design. Following suit is the Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10.

This PC has an oval chassis that tapers at the front and widens at the back, rather than a simple black box. It's neither a rounded rectangle nor an oval, yet it's a fascinating shape.

Because it doesn't fit flush against any surfaces, the Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 is a little tricky to place. It's also huge and hefty, measuring 18.9 x 17.0 x 8.8 inches and weighing 39 pounds. To support it, you'll need a sturdy desk — or you can just put it on the floor, where you won't be able to enjoy its unusual looks.

3- Gaming performance:

I knew the Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 wouldn't deliver the same level of performance as the Alienware Aurora R11 with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 GPU.

(Especially when the Intel/Nvidia model I tested is approximately $1,500 more expensive than the Ryzen variant.)

But I was pleasantly delighted to see that there wasn't much of a difference between the two computers in terms of benchmarks Ryzen outperformed Intel in a few areas. (However, this could be due in part to newer drivers.)

For example:

The Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 ran Assassin's Creed Valhalla at 114 frames per second, Grand Theft Auto V at 145 frames per second, Red Dead Redemption 2 at 112 frames per second, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 128 frames per second at 1080p resolution. In comparison to the Aurora R11, Assassin's Creed Valhalla runs at 87 frames per second, Grand Theft Auto V runs at 154 frames per second, and Red Dead Redemption runs at 107 frames per second, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs at 136 frames per second.

* Overall performance:

The Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10, like other gaming PCs, is unaffected by normal productivity tasks. There was no slowdown or loss of efficiency no matter how many Chrome tabs, video streaming services, music players, or chat clients I threw at it – often at the same time.

4- Software:

The Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10, like most Alienware PCs, doesn't come with much-preinstalled software. The Alienware Command Center and the Alienware Update are two examples of brand-specific programs (which is much less buggy now than it was a few months ago).

Except for the Command Center, which lets you change the RGB lights on the front of the PC, set up performance profiles for certain games, and change power and overclocking options, there's not much worth mentioning here.

However, there is one piece of non-Alienware software that I must discuss: AMD Radeon Software.

The AMD Radeon Software, in contrast to the slick, streamlined Nvidia GeForce Experience software, is a cumbersome product with a cluttered UI, obscure optimization settings, ambiguous instructions, and wildly inconsistent implementation of the "back" button.

While I like how detailed the software settings may be (it can even auto-tune your GPU and fan clock speeds per game if you want it to), I think a "set it and forget it" feature would have been helpful here. I also discovered that the "optimal settings" for certain games were not quite as good as they claimed, necessitating a lot of manual tinkering. (If AMD is reading this, know that the 6800 XT is capable of running Doom Eternal at a resolution higher than 640 x 480.)

5- Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • AMD components that work well
  • Reasonable cost
  • Exceptional gaming performance

Cons:

  • Very obnoxious
  • Inconvenient layout
  • Only average software.

6- Verdict:

While the Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 occasionally irritated me, I was generally satisfied with its performance. It's not quite as smooth or powerful as the Alienware Aurora R11, but depending on your configuration, it's also not quite as pricey. Offering AMD technology allows customers to tailor a model to their own needs, and the chassis, whatever else you may say about it, is unlike anything else on the market.

The Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 isn't the most powerful gaming PC on the market, but it's certainly worth considering if you have a reasonable budget and a preference for AMD hardware. Besides, given the current state of the GPU market, buying a pre-built machine like this may be the only way to get the exact components you want for a long.

Conclusion:

The Aurora Ryzen Edition R10 provides good performance at a fair price, and if you're new to PC gaming, it could be one of the finest gaming PCs for your needs, the design may be improved.
